Sounak Sahu, DPhil

Dr. Sounak Sahu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. His research seeks to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern human tissue development and the earliest events that drive cancer initiation. During his postdoctoral training at the NIH, he pioneered the development of 3D mammary organoids from pluripotent stem cells and also developed one of the largest functional assay to classify breast cancer causing genetic variants.

The Sahu Laboratory combines stem cell biology, developmental biology, CRISPR-based functional genomics, and organoid technology to uncover the earliest cellular consequences of cancer-predisposition mutations and define the molecular principles that govern human organogenesis.
